Make Calls for Obama!

Hey everyone! I just spent about an hour using the link above to call people and get the vote out for Obama.

It was actually a really fun experience. I spoke to some nice folks and made sure that they knew where they could vote early for this election.

If you’ve got some time, this is an effective and fun way to make a difference.

Hey pals. We are now casting guests for our new regular run of Beauty Love Truth (last Thurs of the month at 8 The Peoples Improv Theater). If you have a favorite musician or band you’d like to see us celebrate via improv, answer this post.

Also authors, artists, comics, drawers, scientists you’d like to see present on the topic of beauty, love and/or truth-I love new suggestions! Out-of-town friends, let me know when you’ll be in NYC!

More cool announcements coming soon! http://beautylovetruthtv.com/

As many of you know, since 2007 I have been a performer, director and producer with Story Pirates.Story Pirates is a nationally respected arts and entertainment company that takes stories written by kids and makes them into hugely entertaining and meaningful performances for people of all ages. The stories come from kids of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds; kids from this country and even beyond. It always amazes me to be able to watch one of our authors watch their story performed for the first time. It is fascinating to see kids realize that their creative ideas have been validated by some of the best comedic performers in the country. Time and time again, we have been contacted by teachers from schools that we visit a few weeks after our shows. Students that were not excited about writing before are now hugely excited about writing and writing more and more.I’ve played a lot of parts in kids’ stories over the years. Roles and ideas for characters I’d never have come up with on my own! I’ve played mischievous little brothers, I’ve played a doctor who had to deal with a Skinny Jeans epidemic, I’ve even played a cat named Michael Jackson who wishes he was a laptop! Now I’m asking YOU to play a part in the Story Pirates. With the continuing sad reality of cuts in arts programming at lower-income schools, a lot of kids and teachers need Story Pirates more than ever. I am trying to raise $700 by the date of our benefit: May 19th, 2012. I am $155 away from my goal, so you could donate $5 and really help!Every dollar helps greatly improve the educational life of a student in a school who otherwise would not be able to afford Story Pirates. Even a buck can super-help. Trust me!

You can donate here: http://donate.storypirates.org/LouieAnd, because I like to put the FUN in FUNd-Raising, I’m offering some awesome prizes and incentives for donations. If you donate $1-$30, you will feel great about yourself and I will send you a thank you e-mail.If you donate $30 or higher, I will give you two tickets to the show I co-produce and co-direct, Beauty Love Truth. Beauty Love Truth is an awesome monthly show in which some of NYC’s finest improvisers create scenes based on the work of a live musician or band. Past artists have included Georgia & Ira from Yo La Tengo, Mike Doughty and Spring Standards! You’ll look awesome to whoever you bring to this show!If you donate $50 or higher, you can choose between the BLT tickets or I will make you a 60’s Bubble Gum Music Mix CD. As many of you know, I have been collecting rare and amazing Bubble Gum Music from the sixties for many years now. I will make you your own Bubblegum CD with a hand-made cover and personalized liner-notes as to why I choose the tracks that I did specifically for you!If you donate $100 or higher, you can choose between the BLT tickets, the Mix CD or I will write and record a ukulele song for you. This song can be about anything of your choosing (this might be an awesome gift for a loved one). I will record it and e-mail you an mp3 of the final version! If you donate $150 or higher, you can choose between the tickets, the CD, the song or we will have a Holga Photo Shoot. I will take your portrait with my Holga, we will choose the picture you like the most, I will pay the cost of developing and framing so you can have your own photographic work of art! Some examples of my work as a photographer:Wow! Monthly Sixties-Themed Dance Party Pays Tribute to Davy Jones – “The Cute One”
Next Sunday, March 11th, 8PM-midnight, Djs Ajobo and Hullabaloo are back at 116 Macdougal (116 Macdougal St, NYC) for their monthly Where the Action Is sixties-themed dance party. For the entire four hours they will be playing a set that will honor Davy Jones of The Monkees, who passed of a heart attack on February 29th, 2012 at the age of 66.
“We were crushed to hear of Davy’s death. I met him a few years ago, he autographed my copy of ‘The Monkees’ LP, right across Mike Nesmith’s face!” says regular WTAI DJ, Ajobo. “We’re going to play all of Davy’s hits with The Monkees”, continues Ajobo’s co-DJ, DJ Hullabaloo, “and we’re going to play some rarities too. I’m particularly fond of some deep Davy cuts from the Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart album, so expect to hear some of that. We lost an icon of sixties music, television and culture this week and want to celebrate his life by grooving to his music.” The set will be accompanied by groovy Davy Jones visuals, curated by DJ Hullabaloo.
Hosted and DJ’d by Djs Ajobo (Allison Jonelle Boron, copy editor for Elmore Magazine) and Hullabaloo (Louie Pearlman, NYC comedian and musician), Where the Action Is is NYC’s newest and grooviest night to hear the best in 60’s Pop, Garage, Girl Groups, Dance-Craze, Bubble Gum and other ephemera.
