Essay: Have You Heard of Eugene Chadbourne? | Dummy » Features

An essay in which my uncle Eugene is compared to Devo, Oingo Boingo and Captain Beefheart. I’m excited to perform with him in October!

Check out the amazing new video for Khaki Pants from the NSJ Crew.

The video is part of a Minneapolis-based project called Beats & Rhymes that works to provide school-age kids the chance to experience making and recording music in a way they can relate to. Check them out: http://beatsandrhymes.org/about/

To pick up more music from the NSJ Crew and Y.N.RichKids, go here: http://ynrichkids.com/

Do the khaki dance.

I think this is awesome. I almost want to call it “Bubble Rap”, but it’s too good and genuine to compare with Bubblegum Music. This is legit.

If Beauty Love Truth is being advertised at John’s Pizzeria of Bleecker Street it must be an awesome improv show! Beauty Love Truth, 8 pm on June 8th at the Standard Toykraft in Williamsburg. Be there. John’s Pizza encourages you!

Hey! I produce and direct this! I might be in this too. Yeah! I am in it!

Ahhhh! New live Spring Standards album! Yes!

My first impression of the new Daft Punk - I think it’s really well produced and written. It’s more eclectic and mellower than I expected. I do miss the brighter thumpyness of earlier Daft Punk of albums past (even Human After All, which I found underwhelming at the time), but that’s not what this album is. This is Daft Punk’s attempt at making a disco/prog-rock/Fleetwood Mac album. And they really do succeed on all counts.Love the Paul Williams track a LOT - but it’s basically a more traditional Paul Williams track with Daft Punk playing a supporting role, so not totally blown away and also not a huge surprise that I’d like it. Because Paul Williams is the man.I think the Panda Bear track is very trippy and interesting. I’d love for them to collaborate more. His vocals add a lot to what Daft Punk was trying to do. Was thrilled with the amount of unmistakable Nile Rodgers rhythm-guitar. There could have been more. I’ve got to listen to more Chic, apparently.Overall, I do think that this album expresses the themes of modern alienation, the desire for a return to child-like pleasures and the melding of man and machine in an artistically stronger and more communicative way than a lot of Daft Punk’s other work. It’s definitely their best album other than Discovery, which is always going to be my favorite. It’s beginning to look like we are never going to get another Discovery from them. That’s OK. If they keep stretching themselves and trying new things, like they do on this album, then I’ll happily keep listening. But Discovery definitely has a special place in my heart.

Daft Punk - Something About Us - Daft Loop Love

Just when you think this can’t get any better, there’s an incredible extended theramin solo at the end! Alright - I’ve waited long enough. Time to start listening to the new album and dancing.

Monkee Rumors, Tiger Beat, Aug. 1967.

Some of these are hilariously bad:

“I love Micky and I heard that Micky has a bone disease and that he stabbed his girlfriend.”

“I heard a rumor that Peter Tork had plastic surgery because he is 54 years old.”

Oh sure. Peter doesn’t smoke… tobacco.

Paul Williams. Daft Punk. Muppets. Phantom of the Paradise.

Could this be the greatest eight minute music documentary of all time?
